Made it off the Plantation

I heard Kanye’s new song.   West says ““That’s the problem with this damn nation, all blacks gotta be Democrats, man, we ain’t made it off the plantation.”

The idea that slavery happened to just one group of people at a specific place and time is just that, an idea.

Most of the world population has been in slavery and bondage at some point or another throughout history.

Soon you will have forgotten all things: soon all things will have forgotten you

I’ve read Meditations many times over, however I’m reflecting on these verses today, especially for my birthday:

“Soon you will have forgotten all things: soon all things will have forgotten you.”  – Book 7, Verse 20

“Look back over the past – all those many changes of dynasties.   And you can foresee the future too: it will be completely alike, incapable of deviating from the rhythm of the present.   So for the study of human life forty years are as good as ten thousand: what more will you see?”  – Book 7, Verse 49

Sacrosant

In the US the 2nd Amendment and Immigration are sacrosanct. Both sides (right and left) accept a number of deaths a year to protect the two.   The right accepts a number of deaths per year protect the 2nd Amendment (ie. random shootings).   The left accepts a number of deaths per year to protect  Immigration and diversity (ie. random terrorist acts).
